THIS! is the URGENCY

A Memorial in the Making, A Space for Reflection and Blooming

Presented by The Black Bloom Project

THIS! is the URGENCY is a gathering space—part exhibition, part archive, part altar. It accompanies and uplifts our larger mission: to build the Black, Purple, BLOOM Memorial Tower, a traveling monument honoring Black and Brown Womxn whose lives have been lost to state violence and the COVID-19 pandemic.

This exhibition holds the process behind that vision. On these walls and throughout the space are traces of our collective work: photographs and artifacts from past workshops, images from community events, handmade blooms, and offerings. Stained-glass-inspired plexiglass, cyanotype blueprint collages, and sculptural elements create a landscape that explores themes of safety, spirituality, ancestry, feminine power, labor, land, and home.

At the center is an amulet referencing Mexican Milagros—a symbol of protection, divinity, and resistance. Surrounding it are garden arches and architectural gestures that transform the space into something sacred: a room where grief, healing, and imagination coexist, and where community is not just represented, but present.

You are invited to walk through this space as you are. We hope you feel the echoes of care, of memory, and of possibility blooming forward.

This is not the tower.

But this is how we build it.

The exhbition will be on view Saturday April 26th through May 31st. RSVP for our Opening Reception Here
